In Leg 1, Madrid was trailing after Manchester's two early goals, then they managed to come back when Benzema made the score to 2-1 in the first half. This season, Benzema has contributed 40 goals for Madrid in all competitions.
Los Blancos lost possession of the ball early in the second half, allowing the opposition team's Phil Foden to score. Madrid, on the other hand, responded with Vinicius Junior to cut the deficit to 3-2. After Manchester's Bernardo Silva scored, Benzema added another goal to make the score 4-3.
There are three injured players who will not be available for the upcoming match. Left-winger Eden Hazard suffered a fracture of the fibula in March and was expected to return around June. In the second period, Forden added another goal before Madrid’s Vinicius struck. The Citizens finished the game with four goals, as Silva secured the last one beyond Courtois.
Even though the team got a good start, the Citizens still have to be prepared for the second leg because Real Madrid is not an easy opponent. The fact that Benzema could score two goals, and one of them came from a penalty, should put Manchester City on a cautious stage.
