The Cougars didn't have much room to maneuver until early in the fourth quarter, when QB Cameron Ward connected on a quick pass to true freshman Jaylen Jenkins for a touchdown, giving them a 14-point lead.
The Cougar defense tallied seven sacks and four tackles for loss, dominating Idaho's offensive line for much of the night. After a sloppy first quarter, the Cougar offense began to find some rhythm in the second quarter, as they did just enough to bring home the win.
Both Washington State wide receiver CJ Moore and offensive lineman Rodrick Tialavea will miss the 2022 season due to injuries sustained during fall camp.
