Key Storylines

Pitching Form

Arkansas is coming off of a historic pitching performance in their last game. In their 3-0 win over Murray State in their first elimination game in Omaha, Gage Wood threw a no-hitter that included 19 strikeouts. That was the first no-hitter at the College World Series since 1960. But Wood won't be available for this game, forcing Arkansas to look elsewhere to get the job done on the mound. As for UCLA, they will have to navigate wrapping up a game earlier in the day before playing this contest.

Bullpen Usage

The bullpen situations for these teams will be very different going into Tuesday night. Arkansas' bullpen got the day off on Monday, thanks to Wood's pitching heroics. Meanwhile, UCLA's bullpen had its hands full with LSU as that game was completed on Tuesday morning. How UCLA's pen handles playing a game and a half against SEC competition will be one of the focal points of this contest.

Recent Team Streaks

  • UCLA had a six-game winning streak snapped in their loss to LSU.
  • Arkansas is also 6-1 in this year's NCAA Tournament, but got a win in their most recent outing.

Betting Trends & H2H

These teams have not played one another since 1999, when UCLA swept a two-game set in Fayetteville. The stakes for their first matchup in over 25 years could not be higher, as the winner will keep their title hopes alive, while the loser will have their season come to an end.

UCLA vs Arkansas Model Projection

Score Projection: Arkansas 7 - UCLA 4
Win Probability: Arkansas 68%, UCLA 32%

Arkansas was the favorite to win the College World Series going into Omaha. And while they fell to LSU in their second game, they should have plenty in the tank to advance past UCLA here. The Bruins' bullpen will struggle to deal with the demand of playing a second game today, while Arkansas' bullpen is rested thanks to Wood's complete game on Monday. Expect the Hogs to win and cover the runline here, as they should keep their chances of winning a championship alive for at least one more game.
