The Tennessee Volunteers are 10-2 going into the Orange Bowl, and ranked sixth in the nation heading into bowl season. But they alternated wins and losses in their final four games, going from a team that could have been a playoff contender to a team on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoff. In this contest, the Vols will need to overcome some massive losses to win this contest.
This season, Tennessee averaged over 500 yards of offense per game. But they will be without the quarterback and wide receiver that made their offense tick this year. Without Hendon Hooker and Jaylin Hyatt, we could see a subdued version of the Volunteers offense in this contest.
The Clemson Tigers went 11-2 this year, claiming the ACC championship over North Carolina in their last outing. Clemson has been built around their defense all year, scoring under 35 points per game but allowing just a shade over 20 points per contest as well. Against a Tennessee team that is not at full strength offensively, the defense of Clemson could shine once again.
Clemson will have to overcome a significant offensive loss of their own in this matchup. D.J. Uiagalelei has opted to transfer from the program, and is no longer a part of the team going into this contest. That will put the pressure on Cade Klubnik to step up and deliver in this bowl game for the Tigers.
