Syracuse Orange vs UConn Huskies Football
Syracuse Orange
The Syracuse Orange are undefeated to start the season. Following a dominant performance against the Louisville Cardinals on Saturday night, with a score of 14 in the final quarter to cap off a 31-7 win.
This Saturday, the Orange will travel to Hartford and play the UConn Huskies at Rentschler Field. The Orange will almost certainly remain a rush-heavy offense, but new offensive coordinator Robert Anae should speed up their attack and improve on their 24.9 points per game from 2021.
QB Garrett Shrader and RB Sean Tucker were a lethal rushing duo last season, combining for over 2,200 yards and 26 rushing touchdowns.
Aside from Tucker, who would rush for 98 yards and catch 85 for 85 yards, leading the team in both categories and scoring two touchdowns, Shrader's arm was a big reason why Syracuse's offense was humming against Louisville. He managed to record 237 pass yards and two touchdowns.
Chris Elmore, the captain of Syracuse and a sixth-year senior, was injured in the first quarter of the game against Louisville. Elmore is unlikely to play in the game against the Huskies.
UConn Huskies Football
The Huskies struggled after a 14-0 first-quarter lead against the Utah State Aggies in the 2022 season opener, eventually losing 31-20. QB Zion Turner threw for 109 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, while Nathan Carter rushed for 190 yards on 20 attempts.
The game against Syracuse is winnable if the Huskies can stop the Orange's run. UConn has less than a 10% chance of beating Syracuse, according to ESPN's football power index.
The Huskies' quarterback, Ta'Quan Roberson, will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. The extent of the injury and whether or not the information will be made public is unknown.
