Cal Golden Bears
2022 was a roughly .500 season for the Cal Golden Bears, and any overall improvement in 2023 would be something of a surprise. The returning squad is quite similar to last year's, with few difference makers at the plate or on the mound. It should be noted they struggled against Stanford's arms last season, scoring three or fewer runs in two of three games en route to losing all three. A bottom half finish in the Pac-12 is wholly the expectation for Cal once again this season.
Stanford Cardinal
Expectations could not be higher for the Stanford Cardinal in 2023. Of course they have very real star power, and that starts with two-way stand out Braden Montgomery. The sophomore is the early favorite for conference player of the year. He is not the only pitcher of note, as Quinn Matthews will be invaluable to the Cardinal in his senior season. After being a regional team in 2022, they are expected to build on that success in 2023 with a deep run into the College World Series bracket.
