San Diego Toreros
It has been an interesting start to the season for the San Diego Toreros, who have come out of the gates with a 5-1-1 record, which includes the rare 16-16 seven-inning tie with Nebraska. They have taken full advantage of starting their season with seven straight home games, but their first road test comes here against the Oregon Ducks.
The big question for San Diego will be which version of their pitching staff we get in this game. They have given up nine or more runs on three occasions so far this season, but have allowed five or fewer runs in their other four games. How their pitching holds up against Oregon will determine whether they can hang around in this one, or if things get ugly for them at PK Park.
Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks come into this contest with a record of 4-3, with all three of those losses coming at home to UC Santa Barbara over the weekend. The Ducks were dropped out of the top-25 for their showing against the Gauchos, in which they were outscored 20-3 in those three games. Here, the Ducks will aim to turn things around against San Diego, especially at the plate.
So far this season, Oregon has scored more than five runs in just one game, with that offensive outburst coming against Xavier in the second game of the year. If the Ducks cannot find some offensive firepower in a hurry, their season could get away from them, and they could drop this contest for a fourth straight loss.
