Penn State Nittany Lions
The Penn State Nittany Lions come into the Rose Bowl with a 10-2 record, and a top-15 ranking in the country. Penn State won four straight games to close out the regular season, though it should be noted that they played a weak schedule down the stretch. Here, they will face a much tougher opponent than they faced during their season-ending win streak over Michigan State, Rutgers, Maryland, and Indiana.
For Penn State, the question in this game is whether Sean Clifford can deliver on this stage. Clifford threw for over 2,500 yards this season, throwing 22 touchdown passes to just seven interceptions. But this could be the best pass rush he has faced this year, as the Utah defense is certainly elite.
Utah Utes
The Utah Utes won four of their last five games to end the season, including a win over USC in the Pac-12 title game. Utah comes into this game ranked eighth in the country, and could have very well made the College Football Playoff if not for their heartbreaking season-opening loss to Florida. Here, they will aim for a win that could put them in the top-five at the end of the season.
Cam Rising has been nothing short of a star for Utah this season, throwing for just over 2,900 yards and 25 touchdowns. The impressive thing about Rising's season is the fact that he was injured for a portion of the year, and still led Utah to such a strong year. He will need to overcome the loss of star tight end Dalton Kincaid in this game, though.
