Ohio State Buckeyes
The Ohio State Buckeyes went 11-1 this season and finished fourth in the rankings to sneak into the College Football Playoff. Despite losing just one game, that loss was a costly one, as they were beaten by the Michigan Wolverines. That cost them the chance to compete in their conference championship game, and Ohio State will be an underdog in the playoff as a result.
Making matters worse for the Buckeyes is the fact that Jaxon Smith-Njigba and TreVeyon Henderson are both set to miss this game due to injuries. Against one of the best defenses in college football, not being at full strength could really hurt the Buckeyes in this contest.
Georgia Bulldogs
The Georgia Bulldogs won the College Football Playoff last year, and they are the top seed in the tournament this year. Georgia comes into the playoff at 13-0 on the season, having won the SEC over the LSU Tigers in their last outing. Here, Georgia will look for a performance that will take them to yet another national championship game under Kirby Smart.
Georgia's defense has allowed just 12.8 points per game this season. Their defense will be the focal point of this contest as well, as they will need to stop an Ohio State team that averaged 44.5 points per game this year. If Georgia can do that, they will move to within one win of another title.
