Auburn Tigers vs Oregon State

Auburn Tigers

Auburn Tigers were able to complete their third 2022 Road to the College World Series Regional Round matchup against UCLA on Monday afternoon when they played the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth innings of a game that had been suspended due to thunderous weather conditions on Sunday night. Auburn cruised through a tougher bracket with a +10.3 run differential.

The Tigers also defeated the Bruins 11-4 after starting the day with a 9-0 lead in a game that was open to the public at Plainsman Park. Auburn has been nearly unbeatable at home, going 25-9, but has appeared less confident on the road, going 10-8 in true road games.

Oregon State Beavers

All season, Oregon State has been persistent in showing its dominance in the game as they achieved the number one national ranking while preventing losses in a row until the season's final two weeks.

In their last game, Oregon State was victorious against Vanderbilt. Cooper Hjerpe was the star of the Corvallis regional, striking out 10 batters and throwing 100 pitches in the first game. Last weekend, Ben Ferrer, Brock Townsend, and Ryan Brown all pitched well. If Oregon State's Cooper Hjerpe plays Game 1, Auburn will be unable to consistently score 17 runs, especially when Joseph Gonzalez starts for Auburn.

However, Oregon State will need to step up their offensive game, if they are to advance to Omaha. Jacob Melton and Gavin Logan haven't looked like themselves since returning from injuries. They were a combined 4-for-33 at the plate last weekend. Melton hit a game-winning home run against Vandy, and Logan was on base frequently, getting chances and making plays. However, the pair will have to step up this weekend.
