Alexander Volkanovski -195 vs Max Holloway
✅ Max Holloway’s last two fights, both amazing and dominant wins, were his first non title fights since 2016. That was a span of eight straight fights. His only losses at featherweight have come to Volkanovski, the other loss being a step up to lightweight against Dustin Poirier. While the numbers do not reflect it, Holloway was much, much closer to figuring out Volkanovski in the second fight. I scored the second fight for him. Since then, Max has gone back to his vintage, massive volume output. That includes shattering the record for significant strikes landed in a fight, an other worldly 445 of them! In these last two fights, three if we count the last Volkanovski fight, Max seems back to himself. That was not the case in the first fight against Volkanovski, and I think Max is primed to get his title back.
✅ While I speak very highly of Max, I do not want to take anything away from Alexander Volkanovski. He’s accomplished so much in the octagon, some praised, some forgotten. I believe him to be the only man to survive a bomb from Chad Mendes on his way to the top. Volkanovski is already one of the greatest featherweight champs of all time, and his ilk of peers grows shorter by the fight.
✅ I expect a better Max and one prepared for the particular opponent. Namely, a busier Max. Volkanovski may have to go to his wrestling more than he did in the first two fights. While he did land takedowns, Max’s takedown defense is very good, and Volkanovski was not able to control. The truly attractive thing here is that either fighter is a two to one favorite. This is a coin flip type of fight that I was already leaning towards Holloway on before seeing betting lines. We are getting a +170 return and that is exceptional value on the former champ. Take Max to reclaim his belt on our final bet of the evening.
