San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are one of the hottest teams in the NFL right now, as they are in the middle of a six-game winning streak coming into this matchup. They have not missed a beat despite losing their starting quarterback Trey Lance early in the season, and their backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo just a couple of weeks ago. Now, they go into battle with Brock Purdy as their starting quarterback, as he gets set for his first road start as a professional football player.
The combination of Purdy being on the road for the first time and the Niners being without Deebo Samuel could really hurt them in this game. Fortunately, they still have Christian McCaffrey to rely on offensively and the best defense in the NFL to rely on when they do not have the ball. San Francisco comes into this game with the top scoring defense in the NFL, and that alone could be enough for them to overcome the adversity they are facing.
Seattle Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks come into this game not quite in a must-win situation, but very close to it. They trail the San Francisco 49ers by two games in the NFC West standings, and they are just outside of the top-seven in the NFC and on the outside of the Wild Card spots coming into this week. With either the Washington Commanders or New York Giants set to lose this week (barring another tie between them), the Seahawks could move into the top-seven with a win here.
For the Seahawks, the question coming into this game will be their defense against a Niners team that has played well offensively with Brock Purdy at quarterback. Seattle has given up 30 or more points in two of their last three games, including last week against a Panthers team with the lackluster Sam Darnold playing the role of quarterback for them. If the Seahawks defense does not tighten up here, they could be in for a devastating loss for their playoff hopes.
