Texas Rangers vs Los Angeles Angels

Texas Ranges

On Friday, the Texas Rangers (66-89) will hit the road for a showdown against the Los Angeles Angels. The Rangers are coming off two consecutive series losses against the Cleveland Guardians and the Seattle Mariners.

Despite averaging 4.42 runs per game, which puts them in 11th in the league, the Rangers are in the midst of a 3-7 record over their last 10 games and are not going to the postseason. Their performance this season puts them in fourth place in the AL West, right below the Angels.

Interim manager Tony Beasley is expected to appoint right-hander Glenn Otto as the starting pitcher against the Angels. Otto has a record of 6-9 and an ERA of 4.73. When they faced the Guardians on September 24, he pitched one of his best games, throwing 5.2 innings and allowing one earned run.

During the two times he faced the Angels this season, Otto has thrown 10 innings and given up five earned runs and seven hits. He has a record of 1-0 versus Los Angeles so far in 2022.

Other top players for the Rangers are Marcus Semien and Nate Lowe. Semien went 2-for-5, hitting two home runs and four RBI on Thursday when they faced the Mariners. Lowe has 26 doubles, three triples and 26 home runs. He also has a .304 batting average, ranking second on the team.

The official injury report is listed with several names such as Corey Seager (arm), Brett Martin (shoulder), Dane Dunning (hip), Nick Solak (foot), Brad Miller (hip), Josh Sborz (elbow), Martin Garver (forearm), and Eli White (wrist).

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels will host the Rangers on Friday following a 2-1 series victory over the Oakland Athletics. Los Angeles is currently third in the AL West. In their last 10 games, the Angels are scoring 4.1 runs per game, and allowing 4.2 runs per game, but they nearly got a no-hitter from Shohei Ohtani on the mound last night and will look to build on that performance.

The expected starting pitcher for the Angels is Reid Detmers. This will be the fifth time he has faced the Rangers this season, with an ERA of 6.30 against them. Detmers is 6-6 this season with an ERA of 3.88, and he has struck out 113 batters on the season.

Over the last 10 games, third baseman Taylor Ward is 15-for-36 with five home runs and nine RBIs. They also have star center fielder Mike Trout who leads the Angels with 38 home runs so far.

Facing the Athletics last Thursday, Shohei Ohtani had a no-hitter into the eighth inning before it was broken up. Ohtani allowed two hits and stuck out 10 batters in the eight scoreless innings he pitched.

The official injury report lists Mickey Moniak (hand) on the 10-day injury list and Archie Bradley (forearm) on the 15-day injury list. Andrew Velazquez (foot), Jhonathan Diaz (undisclosed), Jared Walsh (rib), Chris Rodriguez (shoulder), and Griffin Canning are on a 60-day injury list.
