Tennessee Volunteers

The Tennessee Volunteers went 5-1 through the first two stages of the NCAA baseball championships. They went 3-0 in the Clemson Regional, winning two games against Charlotte and one against Clemson. Then, they advanced through the Hattiesburg Super Regional by winning the final two games against Southern Miss to advance to Omaha. Now, the Vols will look to keep their postseason success rolling against one of the top teams in the country in LSU.

So far, Tennessee's pitching has been spectacular during tournament play. They have allowed five or fewer runs in all six of their NCAA tournament games on the year. If they want any chance to defeat LSU here, that pitching will need to show up once again in a big way.

LSU Tigers

The LSU Tigers have been dominant in NCAA baseball tournament play so far, going 5-0 to advance through the regional and Super Regional rounds on the way to the College World Series. LSU was the number one team in the country for much of the college baseball season, and they have shown why during this tournament. The Tigers have won four of their five games by two or more runs in tournament play, and will look to keep that trend going in their Omaha opener against SEC rivals Tennessee.

LSU has already proven in this tournament that they are not concerned with facing SEC competition. In the Super Regional round, they beat Kentucky in two games by a combined score of 22-3. A similar showing from LSU on Saturday would give the Tigers just the start they need to maximize their chances of playing for the championship.
