Oregon to face Georgia in NCAA football season-opener on September 3

Last updated May 19, 2022

It has been reported that the game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Oregon Ducks will be held in Atlanta on September 3, 2022. The two teams will begin the 2022 season and be televised by ABC at 3:30 pm ET.

Despite not being able to get a prime-time slot, the game between the Bulldogs and the Ducks should still be one of the most interesting college football games of the season.

One of the key factors that will determine the game's outcome is the play of Oregon linebacker ace Noah Sewell. He ranked second in the country in tackles last season. Oregon's Justin Flowe is a former 5-star recruit whose career has been ravaged by injuries. That being said, if he can remain healthy, he will be a challenge for Brock Bowers and the rest of Georgia's defensive line. Mase Funa is another promising young player from the Ducks.

Worthy challenger

Despite the success of Kirby Smart, his former assistants, Shane Beamer and Sam Pittman did not field teams that were as talented as the ones that Dan Lanning will face on September 3. Oregon is considered the best team that Georgia will face during the regular season.

Although the upcoming game against Georgia will be Lanning's first as a head coach, he has a lot of knowledge about the team due to working with the school as the defensive coordinator in the past. He developed many of the players that the team will face in the upcoming season.

Like Smart, Lanning's first game as a head coach will be in Atlanta. Although he had some growing pains during his first season as a coach, Smart led Georgia to an 8-5 record in 2016. During his first game as a head coach, the team also defeated North Carolina in the Georgia Dome.

One of the main reasons Smart was brought to Athens was to lead the Georgia football program to a national title. He has shown that he can win a championship, and he is expected to maintain the high standards that the program has established.

Key defensive backs

Many of the players from last season's defensive line are now playing in the NFL. The team lost several players during the NFL draft. Among the lost players were linebacker Nakobe Dean and cornerback Derion Kendrick.

Bo Nix, who transferred from Auburn, will most likely lead the new Oregon defense. Although he has not been named the team's starting quarterback, his experience at Auburn should help him against the Ducks' talented defense.

For the first time in his career, Jalen Carter will be able to step into a more significant role as a defensive tackle. Chris Smith and Nolan Smith are also expected to lead the team's defense. Other players such as Jamon Dumas-Johnson and Kelee Ringo are also likely to contribute to the team's success.

This will be the second season that Georgia will have two co-defensive coordinators, with Will Muschamp and Glenn Schumann replacing Lanning.
