The College World Series gets under way on Friday in Omaha with the first matchup coming between the TCU Horned Frogs and Oral Roberts Golden Eagles. Both of these teams were unseeded going into the NCAA baseball championships, but managed to make it through the regionals and Super Regionals nonetheless. Oral Roberts Golden Eagles
The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles went 3-0 in the regional round of the NCAA Baseball championships, and 2-1 in the Super Regionals against Oregon. ORU lost their first game of the Super Regional against Oregon before coming back to win two games in a row by a combined score of 19-13. Now, their run to the College World Series as a four-seed will test whether they can keep things rolling on the big stage in Omaha.
While Oral Roberts' offense has been electric this postseason, there are legitimate questions about their pitching coming into this contest against TCU. The Golden Eagles have allowed fewer than five runs in just one of their six games during NCAA tournament play. Against a red hot TCU team, the pitching of ORU could finally be their undoing in this contest.
TCU Horned Frogs
The TCU Horned Frogs have won 11 straight games going into the College World Series. That includes four straight wins in the Big 12 Tournament, three straight in the regionals in Fayetteville (including two against #3 Arkansas), and a 2-0 Super Regional at home against Indiana State. Now, the Horned Frogs will look to stay hot in Omaha as they enter as the favorites in their first game against Oral Roberts.
For TCU, pitching could be the difference maker, as they have been stifling their opponents from the mound in tournament play. TCU has allowed no more than five runs in a game since the start of regional play, winning every game by at least two runs during that span. Expect them to continue to do just that again as they face Oral Roberts.
