Nashville Predators
The Nashville Predators entered the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs as one of the underdogs. However, the team still managed to win three out of four matches that they had against the Avalanche in the regular season.
The Nashville-based ice hockey team played in the Western Conference. They won one conference championship in 2017. The Predators started their NHL career in 1998, along with the Atlanta Thrashers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Minnesota Wild.
Under the captaincy of Roman Josi, the Predators are currently in fifth place in the central standings. The team housed several key players, such as veterans Filip Forsberg, Matt Duchene, and Ryan Johansson, and young player Yakov Trenin, for their offense. In their defense, their roster was filled with players such as Mattias Ekholm, Dante Fabbro, Matt Bening, and Alexander Carrier.
By this far, two players have been out due to injuries. Goalie Juuse Saros will not be playing until at least May 7 due to a lower body injury. Jeremy Lauzon from the defence department suffered a leg injury and was expected to be out until at least May 3.
Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche are one of the greatest hockey teams under the guidance of head coach Jared Bednar. The team has an in-game save percentage of above 89.7% in their last eight games.
With a long journey in NHL history, it’s no wonder that the Avs were noted as the team with the best NHL odds to represent the Western Conference and advance as a finalist. Earlier this year, the Avs recorded 4.33 goals per game. This record had them lead the league and marked the most goals per game by an NHL team, following the Pittsburgh Penguins’ record of 4.41 goals per game in 1995-96.
The Avs’ top scorers include Mikko Rantanen with 92 points, Nathan MacKinnon with 88 points, Nazem Kadri with 87 points, and Cale Makar with 86 points. Their center is filled with names such as Andrew Cogliano, Alex Newhook, and Mackinnon. In the defense department, the Avs are complimented by Jack Johnson, Bowen Byram, and Erik Johnson.
Two players were expected to be out until at least May 3, including center Nazem Kadri due to an illness and defenseman Ryan Murray due to a hand injury.
