NCAA to announce Regional hosts, field of 64, Super Regionals host candidates

The regular season is over, and now it is time for college baseball's conference tournaments. With just a couple of weeks left before the NCAA tournament begins, many teams are jockeying for their best chance of making the field. The organization will announce the 16 Regional hosts on Sunday and the field of 64 the following day.

D1Baseball, a leading source of college baseball information, has updated its projections for the tournament. It projects that six of the Big 12's nine teams will make the field.

After winning the Big 12's regular-season title, the TCU Horned Frogs are expected to host a Regional. This will be the team's fourth Regional appearance in the last five years, and it will allow them to play in front of their home crowd instead of against former coach Jim Schlossnagle and the Texas A&M.

For the last couple of weeks, D1Baseball has projected that TCU will be the second-seeded team in the College Station Regional. Unfortunately, this new projection has the Dallas Baptist as the top seed in the Fort Worth Regional. Dallas defeated the Horned Frogs twice this season.

If both of the teams in the Regional win their respective games, then the Horned Frogs would be the 14th seed and would play in the Super Regional against Stanford. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State is the only other Big 12 team that D1Baseball projects to host a Regional.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are currently regarded as the 14th national seed. If they win their Regional and host a Super Regional, they will be facing Virginia Tech. On the other hand, D1Baseball projects that Texas Tech will be the second seed in the College Park Regional and face Maryland.

Texas Tech as rival top contender

Despite being regarded as one of the tournament's top teams, Texas Tech still has not wrapped up its season. The Red Raiders are currently preparing for their Regional at Globe Life Field in Arlington.

After securing the second seed in the Big 12 Tournament, Texas Tech will face off against Kansas State on Wednesday. If Texas Tech wins its game against Kansas State, it will play the winner of the game between West Virginia and Oklahoma on Thursday.

The Red Raiders will have a chance to improve their record against Oklahoma if they can win their second-round game against the Sooners. On Sunday, Texas Tech scored 10 runs in a victory over Oklahoma.

Veterans carry Texas Tech

Second baseman Jace Jung, third baseman Parker Kelly, and outfielder Easton Murrell hit a home run to help the Red Raiders win their game against Oklahoma.

Fifth-year seniors Kelly and Wilson are expected to be the first players selected in the Major League Baseball draft next month. Jung, who also has another year of eligibility left, is a projected high-round pick.

Tim Tadlock, Texas Tech's head coach, praised the contributions of the team's veterans. He said the players would continue to contribute to the Red Raiders.

After winning their last series against Santa Clara, the 18th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs secured the Big 12 regular-season title. TCU defeated Texas Tech during the regular season, and the Horned Frogs' series win in Fort Worth helped them gain the tiebreaker over the Red Raiders.
