Minnesota Vikings vs Philadelphia Eagles
Minnesota Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings had an underwhelming preseason after three losses against the Las Vegas Raiders, the San Francisco 49ers, and at last the Denver Broncos. The Vikings bounced back in Week 1 of the regular season with a 23-7 score, defeating the Green Bay Packers. They hope for a 2-0 start to the season when they face the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night.
Their success during Week 1 was propelled by the touchdown connections of QB Kirk Cousins and WR Justin Jefferson. Cousins threw for 277 yards with 2 touchdowns, and Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was contained to 195 passing yards with no TDs and one pick. Jefferson pulled in 9 catches for 184 yards and two scores and broke a Vikings record with 158 first-half receiving yards.
Looking at their defense, the Vikings have the Eagles transfers Jordan Hicks and Chandon Sullivan. They still keep around a few big names such as Harrison Smith, Danielle Hunter, and Za’Darius Smith from last year's team as well. The roster relies on the current defensive coordinator Ed Donatell who is known as a well-established, respected coach.
There is an overall number of four players whose injury status is still questionable for Week 2. Safety Lewis Cine strained his knee, cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. hurt his quadriceps and defensive tackle T.Y. McGill with his ankle. Defensive end Everson Griffen is going through a personal injury as of now.
Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles started their regular season with an exciting 38-35 win against the Detroit Lions. QB Jalen Hurts and WR A.J. Brown worked well in their first game as teammates, connecting on 10 passes for 155 yards. In his Philly debut, Brown recorded 10 receptions, on 13 targets. Hurts threw for 239 yards, completing 18 of 32 pass attempts with one TD. The Eagles’ overall ground game earned four rushing TDs by four different players, in which Hurts contributed with his 17 carries for 90 yards.
Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon needs to set the Eagles' defensive lines better after last week's game where the Lions managed to run free out of the Eagles’ grasp for 181 rushing yards with an average of 6.5 yards per rush. Philadelphia led by 17 points for a short while, but their defense couldn’t tackle D’Andre Swift and barely pressured Jared Goff in the second half.
There are two players whose injury status is questionable for Week 2 so far. Wide receiver Greg Ward hurt his toe, meanwhile tight end Jaeden Graham's status is uncertain as well.
