✅ The Knights' ground game racked up 292 rushing yards in their season opener, and their rushing attack will be a factor again here.

Louisville Cardinals vs UCF Knights
Louisville Cardinals
During their first three seasons under head coach Scott Satterfield, the Louisville Cardinals had not lived up to expectations. Although Satterfield hoped for better results in his fourth season this year, the Cardinals, unfortunately, set the tone with a 31-7 road loss against the Syracuse Orange in their opener.
On Friday, the Cardinals will be on the road to face the UCF Knights. Malik Cunningham will be the playmaker that will make the difference if Louisville has any success in this game. Last season, he threw 19 touchdowns with only six interceptions.
Louisville was a middle of the pack defense last season, allowing 403.3 yards per game in 2021. Their front seven has a potentially strong base to work with this year, gaining support from Arizona State transfer Jermayne Lole. There is also freshman pass-pusher Ashton Gillette, as well as OLB Yassir Abdullah.
A notable returning starter is WR Braden Smith, who had to miss most of the last season due to a severe left knee injury, in which he had multiple ligaments torn. Smith is now back on track for the 2022 college football season.
UCF Knights
The UCF Knights kicked off the season opener with a dominant performance over South Carolina State, snatching a 56-10 home victory under the wing of head coach Gus Malzahn. Malzahn led the team to finish with a 9-4 record last year for his debut season with the Knights. According to ESPN, the Knights are ranked 26th in the preseason rankings, hence their designation as a favorite here.
Ole Miss transfer John Rhys Plumlee is the team's starting quarterback, supported by returning senior starting RB Isaiah Bowser. Bowser has gained 83 yards during the current season on 23 attempts with two touchdowns. The Louisville defense will also have to watch out for Ryan O'Keefe, who has three receptions for 48 yards after one game this season.
On the defense side, It's worth noting that UCF was sixth in the nation in pass defense. The Knights have lost a few star players, such as leading tackler Tatum Bethune who transferred to Florida State. However, nine starters and a few additional transfers should be able to boost the defense and keep them playing well this season.
