Former Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire questions Ohio State's Strength

Last updated September 1, 2022

Two college football superpowers, Ohio State and Notre Dame will meet in the Horseshoe to open the 2022 season this Saturday. Before the game former Fighting Irish quarterback Malik Zaire took to Twitter to question the strength of the Buckeyes.

In his tweet, Zaire also attached a video of ESPN college football analyst Paul Finebaum. In the video, Finebaum skeptically responded to Marcus Freeman’s comment that the Irish were 17.5 point underdog to the Buckeyes.

"All this chatter for a 'top' ranked Ohio State team that won't play on major TV after ND cause schedule is full of bottom dwellers," Zaire tweeted.

On Wednesday morning, Zaire also took on Ohio State fans. His tweets have since drawn comments from others.

"Ohio State fans get so hype but y'all wasn't even the best team in Ohio last year! Lol CINCY was" Zaire wrote.

Zaire was referring to the Cincinnati Bearcats. The team is the first-ever Group of Five team to make the College Football Playoff after they finished last season undefeated.

Zaire did not stop the trash-talk there. He launched more comments regarding Ohio State. The latest of his tweets criticized former Ohio State quarterbacks JT Barrett, Cardale Jones, and Braxton Miller.

“ino yall worried about Saturday! But I promise y’all can still make it to the playoffs after this whoopin!” He said on Twitter.

It was responded by Edmonton Elks quarterback Cardale Jones, challenging Zaire to make a bet on the game. Zaire said the Fighting Irish would win the game over the Buckeyes.

“Listen if this Saturday 9/3 was a 7on7 competition then of course Ohio state is an easy choice… but until I hear something bout y’all actually being able to shed blocks and tackle or hold up front against a challenge! What am I lying about? we got better matchups,” Zaire said.

Ohio State Vs. Notre Dame

The Buckeyes and Fighting Irish have an equal opportunity to win since both teams are in the top five of the AP polls. The game will decide their fate in the College Football Playoff.

Prior to the game, the teams met just six times. The Fighting Irish won the first two competitions, while the other four were in the Buckeyes’ hands. The most recent match was in 2016 at the Fiesta Bowl, where Ohio State won 44-28.

The Buckeyes showed a lot of improvement last season. The team’s offense was unstoppable. It succeeded to finish no. 1 in total offense and scoring. Moreover, it also took second place in third down conversions and third place in passing.

Ohio State also tried to strengthen its defense by bringing in Jim Knowles from Oklahoma State. This suggests an aggressive and defensive back-led approach will be the Buckeyes' strategy of choice this season.

On Notre Dame's side, Tyler Buchner is one of the best players on the team. He showed a significant role in big moments last year. The team also has Lorenzo Styles, who had an outstanding performance last season, including a 100-yard showing in the Fiesta Bowl. In addition, Notre Dame also has other great players like Chris Tyree, Michael Meyer, and many more.

The winner of the game will have a significant advantage for playoffs while the falling team will have to make a comeback in the round of the top-four.
