Florida State Seminoles vs LSU Tigers
Florida State Seminoles
After going 9-13 in his first two seasons as the head coach of the Florida State football program, Mike Norvell knows it's time for the program to turn the corner. He has been given some leeway, but he has also experienced significant changes in his roster. If the program continues to struggle in 2022, it will likely lead to calls for the former Memphis head coach to be removed from his position.
The team got off to a good start in Norvell's second season as the head coach by defeating Duquesne in Week 0. Quarterback Jordan Travis threw for over 200 yards and two TDs. The game's main feature for the Florida State football team was its running game, which gained over 400 yards. Three different players were able to rush for over a hundred yards, including Treshaun Ward and Trey Benson.
The school's biggest recruit this year was Brian Kelly, the former head coach of the Notre Dame football team. He has a long history of success in the college football coaching ranks, and he will be expected to take the Tigers to the top level of the sport soon. Kelly is also very familiar with the role and will be willing to do whatever it takes to win championships.
Kelly's first order of business is to name a starting quarterback for the team. He has been very coy about who will be under center for the season opener against Florida State. The competition for the starting job is between former Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier. Kelly is very confident in both players and said he would be announcing the starting quarterback on Sunday night.
With the addition of several key players from different areas, including talented wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, the team should be able to improve its passing game. Boutte had an ankle injury during the 2021 season, but he is expected to be able to play on Sundays.
