Insights from the 3-Day Testing in Bahrain

Red Bull's dominance appears set to continue, but the fight for second place could involve four teams: Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and Aston Martin. Our focus will be on these top five teams, which are likely to dominate the Q3 qualifying sessions this season.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen quickly found his pace, while Sergio Perez struggled to match the reigning champion. It seems almost certain that Verstappen will clinch his third consecutive drivers' championship, with DraftKings offering odds of -650. However, Perez needs to accumulate more points than last year to secure his position at Red Bull into 2025. With the team's history of mid-season driver changes and Daniel Ricciardo possibly eyeing a return, Perez must aim for at least 2-3 wins and more than ten podium finishes to stay secure.

The major challenge to Red Bull's constructors' championship in 2024 (-588 odds from DraftKings) isn't on the track but rather the drama surrounding Christian Horner. If he steps down as team principal, it could influence Adrian Newey's decisions. Horner has been instrumental in building Red Bull's success, with Newey often credited as the key to the car's exceptional performance.

Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are pleased with their car, particularly noting improved tire degradation from last season. While the car matched Red Bull's qualifying speed, it fell short in race performance.

Leclerc is the second favorite for the drivers' championship at +1200, with Sainz at +2200. However, these odds seem illogical, given Verstappen's projected dominance.

Ferrari is the second favorite at +800 for the constructors' championship, presenting a potentially attractive bet, especially with uncertainties around Perez's performance at Red Bull.

Notably, Sainz will leave Ferrari as Lewis Hamilton announces his surprising move to the team in 2025. The impact of this change on Ferrari's performance is yet to be seen.

The duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri at McLaren is particularly compelling. Both are immensely talented, with Norris providing the experience to guide newcomer Piastri. McLaren, the third favorite for the team championship at +1200, could surprise many given their progress this year, potentially challenging for podiums and Norris's first race win.

Mercedes enters this year with a solid car, though not quite at Red Bull's level. Despite resolving top-speed issues from the previous season, they remain the fourth favorite for the constructors' championship at +1400, a position they're likely eager to improve upon.

Aston Martin

With Fernando Alonso's impeccable skills and Lance Stroll's variable performance, Aston Martin has potential this season. They lead the midfield but deserve a stronger driver pair to compete at the top truly.

The Other Teams

Alpine faces internal challenges and a performance decline, a far cry from previous expectations. Alexander Albon shines at Williams, maximizing the car's strengths, while Logan Sargeant must step up to secure his future in F1.

VISA Cash App RB (formerly AlphaTauri) and Sauber (formerly Alfa Romeo) are in a tight race for the midfield, with Haas likely at the bottom, struggling to find last year's momentum.

This season promises an intense competition, with strategic bets offering intriguing possibilities for fans and bettors alike.
