Central Michigan Chippewas vs Oklahoma State Cowboys

 Central Michigan Chippewas

The Chippewas finished the 2021 season with a record of 9-4 and 6-2 in the MAC. They won their final five games of the season, including the Sun Bowl against Washington State of the Pac-12.

The Chippewas will be facing many challenges this season due to the loss of several key offensive and defensive players from last year's team. Among those who are gone are starting wide receivers JaCorey Sullivan and Kalil Pimpleton, with Pimpleton bouncing around the NFL since moving on from Central Michigan.

The Chippewas were 29th in the country in the passing offense last season, averaging 265.4 yards per game. They were also 51st in the nation in the ground game, with an average of 178 yards per contest.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

For the first time in Mike Gundy's career, the Cowboys were able to win 12 games last season. They ended their season with a victory in the Fiesta Bowl over Notre Dame. Before falling to Baylor in the Big 12 Championship Game, the Cowboys were regarded as one of the best teams in the country.

There have been some coaching changes made ahead of the season at Oklahoma State. Derek Mason, the former head coach at Vanderbilt, joins the Cowboys as their new defensive coordinator. He replaces Jim Knowles, who left that position to become the new defensive coordinator at Ohio State. Mason struggled as the coach of the Commodores, and will hope to have more success in his new role in Stillwater.

Oklahoma State was ranked 67th in the country in passing offense last season with an average of 231.9 yards per game. The team was also ranked 41st in the country when it came to rushing offense with an average of 185.5 yards per game. The Cowboys were also tied for 9th in the nation when it came to defense with an average of 18.1 points allowed per game.
