Blues vs Avalanche

Wednesday's game will mark the third time St. Louis and Colorado meet in the playoff series. Per the record, the Avalanche have won the last two meetings.

The Avalanche swept the Blues four games to none in last season's first round, with St. Louis being outscored 37-18 in nine games.

In this year's regular season, the Avalanche won two of the three games against the Blues. St. Louis' only victory was in the season opener where they won 5-3 against Colorado.

St. Louis Blues

Wednesday's game will be somewhat special for St. Louis as it is the first second-round they enter since winning the Stanley Cup in 2019.

In several previous matches, the Blues have shown an impressive display as they defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-2 in the opening round, and the team currently holds the record of 49-22-11 with 109 points.

For the opening of the second round, the Blues are likely to miss Torey Krug and Marco Scandella. The two defensemen could probably skip the entire series due to the lower-body injuries.

Colorado Avalanche

The 2002 conference final was the last time the Avalanche participated in the tournament. The poor trend then continued for the past three seasons with the Avalanche always stumbling in the second round.

However, Colorado seems to have grown steadier this year all the way up to the playoffs stage. The team now has a record of 56-19-7 with 119 points. In the opening round, the Avalanche defeated the Nashville Predators in the previous four games.

For the second round, goalie Darcy Kuemper, who has been enduring an eye injury, is expected to return.
