St. Louis BattleHawks
Coming into this season, the St. Louis BattleHawks are the slight favorites to win the XFL championship in 2023. They were great in 2020, but have a different roster here this year, which could change how they perform in a big way. As road favorites to start this XFL season, the BattleHawks will test their new look roster against a completely new team in the league, the San Antonio Brahmas.
It will be interesting to see if A.J. McCarron is the starter in St. Louis, and how that goes if he does indeed take the snaps for the BattleHawks. Whoever is the signal caller for St. Louis will have a proven entity in this league at their disposal in Austin Proehl, who scored the league's first touchdown in 2020. But this team's quarterback play could be a question mark until they prove it is not a concern on the field.
San Antonio Brahmas
There is one franchise in the 2023 edition of the XFL that was not around in 2020, and that is the San Antonio Brahmas. The team replacing the LA Wildcats will look to get off to a good start at home here against St. Louis. The question for the Brahmas going into this season opener will be who takes the snaps for them and whether they have a quarterback that can propel their offense to positive things in 2023.
Jack Coan and Juwon Pass are the two top options at quarterback for San Antonio. Neither has professional experience, and it remains to be seen who will see the bulk of the action for this squad. Either way, expect plenty of Kalen Ballage early in the year, as the young QBs in San Antonio get their feet wet.
