St. Louis BattleHawks
The St. Louis BattleHawks are 2-0 coming into the third week of XFL action, having beaten the San Antonio Brahmas and Seattle Sea Dragons. Here, they will play their third straight road game, as they go to Washington D.C. to take on the Defenders. The question is whether a lack of home field advantage will finally trip the BattleHawks up in their toughest test of the season thus far.
St. Louis will need to get off to a better start in this game than they have in their first two games. They went down 15-3 in San Antonio before coming back and winning, and fell behind 9-0 before storming back against the Sea Dragons. Another slow start could lead to the end of the BattleHawks' unbeaten run this season.
DC Defenders
The DC Defenders are also 2-0 to start this XFL season, having beaten the Seattle Sea Dragons and Vegas Vipers in back to back weeks. They needed a late forced fumble in the red zone to stop the Sea Dragons and defeat them, before beating up on the lowly Vipers in Week 2. This week, the Defenders have their second home game of the season to look forward to, as they look to hand the BattleHawks their first loss.
The Defenders have developed a really interesting offensive strategy, using both of their quarterbacks regularly this season. They have started games with Jordan Ta'amu, and have focused on passing the ball early in games. They have then opted to use D'Eriq King late in games, bullying teams with their rushing attack. That has been a winning strategy so far, and the Defenders will hope that continues in Week 3.
