San Francisco Giants vs. San Diego Padres

San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants will get the ball from Alex Cobb in the second game of their series against the San Diego Padres. Cobb is expected to carry a 4.08 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP into the game against the Padres. Over his last two appearances, he has allowed just four runs over 12 ⅓ innings.

The Giants were not the same team as last season when they won the NL West. They're still in the hunt for a wild-card spot, and they're still not as dominant on the mound as they were before Kevin Gausman was removed from the lineup.

Despite their struggles, San Francisco still allows the fewest home runs in the league. Los Gigantes also have the fourth-fewest walks in the league.

San Diego Padres

Joe Musgrove will get the start for the San Diego in Game 2 of the series. He was roughed up for six runs in 4 2/3 innings in a Thursday loss. According to baseballsavant.com, Musgrove had 14 missed swings and could generate only a fair amount of soft contact. Ryan McMahon could contribute five of the six runs he allowed.

Musgrove has struggled in his last four starts, allowing 17 runs over 21 innings. He has also struck out 120 in his last three starts.

The Padres acquired several players at the trade deadline, such as Josh Bell, Juan Soto, and Josh Hader. They are currently in second place in the NL West, and they have a chance of making the wild card. One of the reasons why the team has been able to get this far is the consistent pitching. Through the first 90 games of the season, the team has allowed only 110 home runs.
