Maryland Terrapins to participate in Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame tournament

The Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame has announced the teams participating in the 2022 Tip-Off Tournament. The event, which is an NCAA exempt tournament, will be held on November 19 and 20 at Mohegan Sun Arena.
Saint Louis will play Maryland on the first day, while Miami will take on Providence. The winners and the losers of the games will face off on the following day.
During the past season, Miami was able to reach the NCAA's Elite Eight, while Providence won the Big East Championship. Meanwhile, Saint Louis participated in the National Invitation Tournament last season.
Maryland head coach Kevin Willard said he was excited to participate in the Tip-Off Tournament in 2022. He said the competition would allow his squad to face some of the best teams in the country.
"We are very excited to play in the 2022 Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament," said coach Willard. "This event features some of the best teams in the nation and we are excited to have an early-season challenge for our program.
"Playing at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut is a great location for our fans to travel as we have a large following throughout the entire Northeast corridor, and they will be able to come and support the Terps."
The upcoming Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament will feature some of the best teams in the country. According to John Doleva, the tournament's president and CEO, the quality of the teams participating this year will be very high.
"We look forward to another exciting weekend at the Mohegan Sun for the 2022 Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament," said Doleva. "This year's field of teams will bring a high level of competition to one of the country's best early-season events."
Maryland and Saint Louis previously met in the NCAA Tournament in 1994. The game ended with the Terrapins winning 74-66. Joe Smith had 29 points and 15 rebounds for Maryland.
Maryland and Miami faced off against each other 19 times as ACC rivals. The last time the two teams met was on January 29, 2014, in which Maryland came out winning 74-71.
Maryland and Providence have played each other three times. In 2013, the Maryland basketball team defeated the Providence Friars 56-52. Maryland also won the match on December 4, 1991, at the Hartford Civic Center. This was Maryland's last game in the state of Connecticut.
Other bracket challengers overview
Both the Hurricanes and the Friars were able to make deep runs in the NCAA Tournament. However, they were eventually defeated by Kansas and the Jayhawks. The upcoming matchup between the two teams will be held closer to home.
Miami, which is coached by Jim Larranaga, is a former Big East rival of the Friars. The teams have faced off against each other 16 times. In the 2014-15 season, Providence defeated Miami 76-62.
Miami finished last season with a record of 26-11. Its other notable victories during the 2021-22 season included defeating Duke, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech.
