The College World Series is an incredibly fun sporting event, as 64 teams battle it out for the right to play for the national championship in Omaha, NE. And with sports betting being legal in so much of the United States today, there is more interest in betting on this tournament than ever before. Here, we look at whether or not it is legal to bet on the College World Series and what bettors should know before placing their bets on the college baseball tournament.

Is College World Series Betting Legal?

In many cases, it is legal to wager on the College World Series, and the NCAA baseball tournament. The legal status of betting on the college baseball tournament varies on a state by state basis, as many states allow legal sports betting that includes college sports, while some do not. This all depends on the laws in the state that you live in, as college sports can have particularly specific laws on betting.

For example, some states do not allow betting on in-state college teams, such as bettors in New York not being able to wager on teams like Syracuse. Bettors should be sure to familiarize themselves with the laws in their specific state. But most states with legal online sports betting will offer some kind of legal betting on the College World Series.

Where Can I Bet On the College World Series?

There are several sportsbooks that offer College World Series betting, including the sportsbooks that offer college baseball betting throughout the season. Types of Bets to Place On the College World Series

With College World Series betting being legal in so many states, there are several types of bets that can be made throughout the course of the tournament. Below are the main types of wagers that can be made before and during each NCAA baseball tournament matchup.

Runline Bets

Runline betting is the college baseball version of point spread betting. With this type of bet, bettors will either have runs taken away from the score of the team they bet on or added to the score of the team they bet on, depending on whether the bettor is wagering on the favorite or underdog in each matchup.

Moneyline Bets

With moneyline betting, the goal of bettors is to accurately predict which team is going to win each game during the NCAA baseball tournament. Baseball is a sport where upsets are commonplace, especially at the collegiate level. As a result, bettors need to be willing to bet on underdogs in order to be profitable in this tournament.

Over/Under Bets

Over/under betting asks bettors to choose whether the total score in each college baseball game will go over or under the total set by a sportsbook in a given game. Bettors might see totals that are higher in college baseball than they are in Major League Baseball. This is a product of the pitching not being as well-developed as it is in the pros, which can create some very entertaining action.

How Does the College World Series Work?

The College World Series is made up of the 16 teams that survive the Regional and Super Regional rounds at the beginning of the NCAA baseball tournament. The tournament begins with 64 teams that are broken in 16 double-elimination regions of four teams each. One team advances from each region into the Super Regional round, where eight teams will advance to the College World Series in Omaha.

From there, the remaining eight teams will play in a bracketed tournament in Omaha to determine who the national champion will be. SEC teams have won the last three editions of the tournament, with Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt winning the last three College World Series crowns.
